Default Coolant Level

Bit confused about coolant level.

When the engine is cool, it sits exact on the "minimum" line.

Some sources say when engine cool, it should sit on "minimum" and when hot it should sit at "Maximum".

Others say when engine is cool it should be between the "minimum" and "Maximum" which i always thought means roughly halfway between when checking on cool engine.

Which is it?

I am leaning towards the latter, as the Volvo manual says to top up if coolant falls to "Min" mark.

When I flushed my coolant I topped it off to a fraction below the maximum mark when cold, it rises up about 1mm to the maximum mark when hot

I normally go for the middle somewhere and would top up a bit if it gets to minimum, not that it ever does

Always check the coolant level when cold - next day before first start and if on level ground then top up to Max level or just shy.

Thumbs up

And remember - U can use the SEALEY brake bleeding system (VS820) to pressure test
the coolant system. The cap fits both the break fluid reservoir & the coolant reservoir.
