Default TDI turbo oil drain

Hi Guys,
I've been changing the turbo and exhaust manifold on my '98 v70 tdi today. Had a bit of grief getting the turbo oil drain return pipe off, but nothing compared to trying to get it back on. I've given up for the day now (tommorows plans cancelled), having spent at least the last three hours trying to bolt the drain pipe flange back on.
Am I missing something, or is it just one of those jobs that has you gladly stabbing your own eyes with a fork ?
Thanks
Russell

Finally sorted it.
Used a piece of m8 stud to replace one of the bolts, so the flange could get positioned before wiggling the other bolt in to place. A proper clart on, but got it done.
Hasn't solved the problem though, which is no turbo boost until about 3k rpm, even then it's mediocre. I thought it may have been the wastegate, so I swapped the turbo as it looked straightforward (Yes...I know). I've swapped the egr valve, the boost solenoid has been changed, both the one on top of the airbox and the one on the inner arch behind the airbox. I've given the intercooler pipes the once over and they look ok and the airbox to turbo pipe isn't collapsing with vacuum.
Any ideas anyone, while a shred of my sanity remains ?

Just cured the same problem by replacing the MAF. Got a used one cheap on fleabay. Doddle to replace and now the car runs perfect.
