XC60 PHEV Towbar retrofit at dealer

Hi all new member here, thinking of purchasing an XC60 Ultra from new.

This is partly for use as a towcar for a caravan that we will get.

My question is - if I purchase a brand new model that is already in production in order to shorten the lead time, can I have the towbar retrofitted at the dealer?

More specifically, if I have the towbar fitted by the dealer or their subcontractor, is it the same retractable towbar that Volvo fits (or at least as good as that one i.e. retractable and tidy)?

I think towbars are dealer fit anyway

Yes mine was fitted by the dealer after I got it, and it was the retractable one

As PW said even if you order the tow bar with a new build car it is fitted by the dealer after it is delivered to them for preparation. So the answer is a definite yes then can fit them for you.

Thanks yes I asked the local dealer yesterday and they said that they can just install the towbar themselves and it will be the same one, and in fact Volvo just sends it to them to be installed anyway.

I had seen another thread somewhere where it was claimed that some Volvo's the towbar is fitted at the factory but I guess this is not correct.

In the very early days I seem to remember it was factory fit ie early 2016. Then it became dealer fit.

A towbar (on an XC90 anyway) could be fitted at the factory during manufacture from Jan 18. I ordered an XC90 in Jan 18 (delivered April 18 and the towbar was definitely on it from build and I saw car the day it was delivered to the dealer- with the bar fitted). I specced the towbar on my 22 XC90 and salesman took some persuading it was possible to have it fitted at the factory but came back and confirmed it was indeed possible and this car also arrived with the folding towbar fitted.
The exact same towbar can also be dealer fitted.

I ordered a new V90 CC with towbar, the towbar came with the car from Volvo but was fitted at the dealers

Same on mine. Asked for retractable towbar during annual service, all was done in one go.
