Default No audible indicator?

Just picked up my new XC60 with original Volvo detachable towbar.

Hooked up the car to the van today to test out the electrics. Everything seems to work fine and dash tells me a trailer is hooked up and blis and cta are disabled.

However there does not appear to be an audible repeater for the indicators which I have been used to in the past on previous cars.

Does anyone know if this is correct?

Cheers

John

Yes that's correct - instead however there may be on the dash a trailer indicator light that illuminates when you indicate. On later models (possibly all XC60) with Volvo tow bars the bulbs on the trailer are checked as part of the bulb warning system.

The buzzers are usually found on aftermarket tow bars.

On my MY10 XC70 I don't have a seperate trailer light nor a secondary audable warning, instead the normal dash indicator light flashes faster if any indicator bulb is out. Took the supplying dealer to call Swedenbefore it was sorted out as even they did not aappreciate the change. In my view as there was no trailer indication it was illegal to tow with. Fortunately it was cleared up when Sweden confirmed the car system extended to the trailer when it was plugged in. Tested it with my trailer board and indeed removing an indicator bulb from the trailer board caused the dash warning to flash fast. Unhelpfully the hand book still talked of a seperate trailer indication.

On my XC60 the car system also monitored the trailer/caravan lights and tells you if there is a problem.

I know it works because it told me last year that I had a blulb failure on the caravan and guess what it had. Perhaps this is part of the set up required from VIDA.

The Construction and Use Regs only require you to have a system that monitors the indicators and in the past it was much easier and cheaper to have a beeper ot a bulb that showed that the system is working. Things have moved on and there should be no need to check the caravans lights because the system does it for you. Out of habit I still check them though.

My 17 MY XC70 monitors all trailer lights and reports any faults. The problem with that is it doesn't really understand cheap LED lights.....
