Default SIPS Airbag Service Due

I have just noticed the SIPS information plate located on the drivers door pillar. On this it states that my SIPS Airbags are due for service/replacement in October 2008.

I was just wondering how necessary this service is, and how much it should cost. Does anyone have an opinion and can anyone give a rough price if they have recently had theirs done?

Money is tight at the moment and I don't want to spend out unless absolutely necessary, but then again, it would be nice to have the system working if I have a crash!

Default Airbags

Our V70 and S70 have both passed their 10th birthdays - and the date by which the airbags should have been inspected.

When I asked a dealer about this they said that the sticker was there to comply with regulations, but that there isn't any particular means by which the airbags can be inspected or tested - apart from the obvious!

If the SRS light warning light comes on and goes out within about 10 to 15 seconds when you start the engine I think you have to assume the system is OK.

Remember that even without the airbags, you're driving one of the safest vehicles ever built.

The dealer told me not to worry about it - so I don't!

Cheers

Jack

Thanks Jack.

SRS light seems OK. Think I will keep on driving and hope I never get to test the bags the obvious way!!
