Default Xc90 steering pipe

Noticed a puddle of oil where the mrs parks here 07 D5 xc90... had a look when she came home and her steering pipe is leaking. It's alloy pipe next to the front engine mount on the hp side .....

Can get a new pipe for around 3 weeks..... has anyone successfully cut and put a compression fitting?

Or anyone got one or know of someone breaking one?

Thanks

If you can identify the part number or provide a photo I'll have a look at the one I'm breaking tomorrow to see if it's the same.

don't bodge it, there is nearly 2000 psi in there .. a specialist hose is needed .

Had a look today and unfortunately the pipe is leaking at one of the unions. It wouldn't be safe to use.

Tony, have a check, I got one repaired in Paisley, near the Alexandria (for the life of me I cant remember their name but they were a hydraulic engineers, it was about 10yrs ago,) they removed and crimped a new end on mine after pressure checking the line for suitability ... problem solved and much, much cheaper than a replacement hose.

Hopefully it helps.

Could be Dave, tbh I really cant remember, the other name that rings a bell is HydraQuip, but which ever, they were very helpful and did the repair whilst I waited.

Today I got a compression fitting and it's sealed.... no leaks or weeps.

Took the car a drive and the steering is hell of a heavy when going to go round a roundabout or sharp corner... like I need to put all my strength in to turn. Driving normally you can rock the steering and its light.

Not sure if there is an air pocket in the system but there us no bubbling in the reservoir or groan from the pump.

At this rate the car would be up for sale soon

Just to keep everyone updated, called pirtek in Cambuslang and they wanted £70 to make up a pipe using my ends.... spoke to a guy that works for euro hydraulics and he says pop into the workshop and speak to the guys... £40 quid later I fitted to the car. It was better than my temp join.

Still stiff steering though. Ordered a new steering pump that won't be here till just before the new year so need to wait I need to rev upto 3k to get somewhat light steering.

Will post again once I've fitted the pump
