Default So I was gloating until today!

Being a new owner and member of the forum I thought I was so lucky that my T8 had just got me to France and back without a hitch. I know that forums are generally for people complaining about their cars going wrong so I thought that the person that said that the reason people don't see T8's on the road is because they are all at the dealer being fixed was perhaps exaggerating!

Well, mine has just gone from a silent battery car to engine only and has a picture of a tortoise (was it a snail?). It says on the dash that acceleration is limited.

Calling the dealer they said to call Volvo on Call. I did and I must say that they are great and are picking it up in the morning and providing a hire car. I am just so glad this didn't happen in France with seven of us plus a dog in the car.

Is this the first of many of these occasions?

Hopefully it gets all sorted quickly. If it did happen in france, remember a "user battery reset" as described by me usually cures most ills - temporarily at least.

Thanks Philip, I found the comment. Very useful, they should make it a sticky. Are you saying that fuse 11 should do exactly the same job?

Before they picked it up this morning I drove up and down the road, although the tortoise didn't come up it kept dropping off the battery and starting the engine with only light load so it is now with Kastners of Exeter. I await a phone call and a Mazda 6 estate car as a replacement!

Fuse 11 does the same job only in the case of the specific problem with failure to power up and display the gear selector on the dash. Fuse 11 supplies the onboard charger, which causes the fault in this case.

Other problems, however, can be fixed by cutting and reconnecting the power to the module concerned. This could be done by finding the appropriate fuse and pulling it out then refitting, or - more easily than finding the right fuse - by disconnecting the 12 volt battery.

Remember you must disconnect the positive (after safely disconnecting the negative) for this to work. If you disconnect just the negative everything still operates (strange I know, but that is what happens).

Also remember never to muck about with the 400v battery. It could kill you.

It is very strange but I have exactly the same problem with my 2003 xc90. It actually happened again today - the DIN unit (drivers display with speedometer etc) fails to light up and the trip and computer fails to start (there are other issues as well) . The only way to reset it is to disconnect the battery positive lead under the bonnet.

How strange is that that the problem appears to have spanned the generations .
