Hi. I'm going to over this weekend try to investigate why my handbrake is only engaging with the drivers side rear wheel - any pointers from you knowledgeables as to to what I should be looking at and what the cause may be will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DAVE. (Volvo V40 1800 20003). |

Seized caliper and /or handbrake cable. Most likely caliper. If one side is seized the other one will be almost too. Fit two new calipers, check cables, job sorted.

I've recently had the same problem.Mine turned out to be the offside handbrake cable was siezed. It was a bit off a performance changing the cable with the car up on axle stands and most of the bolts stuck solid but changing it has fixed the problem.

I have had the same problem but only since replacing both cables. Now one side works fine but drivers side doesn’t work at all. Have replaced discs, shoes, cables and pads. It feels like the cable on non-working side is too long/ longer than working side. I’ve had it all apart again today and greased the actuator. Cable seemed “stiff” but not ceased.
