Locking wheel bolts
I've had OEM locking wheel bolts/ nuts on our cars ( Ford, Vauxhall, Mazda. Volvo) for over 30 years. Never a problem.
The code for the locking wheel nut key has always been in the documentation. Not so for my V60 Polestar. The key is worn, I cannot remove the locking wheel bolts with it. ( I've had it since new, I have always used a torque wrench to tighten all wheel bolts ). I hope I can get new one from Volvo with the VIN. Some sites indicate a replacement key is not available; any experience in this area? |

Thanks for confirming my (worst) fear.
The key has been carefully used maybe 50- 60 times, possibly more than it was designed for. (I have summer and winter wheels/ tyres) Always using a torque wrench, never an impact driver. |

Car is going into the dealer tomorrow, I suspect the locking part of the bolts is hardened, the key not. So the key wears out. Apart from profit generation, I don't understand why replacement keys are not available.

You could always just remove them (see YouTube) and put standard bolts on.
I did this with my SLK350 when the same thing happened. No-one nicked the wheels! |

Every car I buy now I remove the locking wheel nuts and just fit standard ones. I can't remember that last time I heard of anyone getting a set of alloys stolen (unless the whole car was stolen and it was found stripped down).
That said I don't have a top Polestar model.

The Volvo dealer got the locking bolts out and refitted the original 4 bolts ( the locking ones are apparently fitted in the UK in the PDI stage, the original bolts left in the car). I'm really happy with them. I'm going to leave it like that. Why there is no key code for the locking bolts, the dealer doesn't known either . I suspect it's a Volvo UK thing; any problem, new locking bolts and key required.
