T5R running hot/overheating
Our (well maintained, near mint, very low milage, 2 owner) T5R manual has got itself an issue...... Was hoping that we could get some suggestions.
First the expansion cap split slightly, small amount of steam- put a new one on. Not too fussed as its all 18yrs old.... Next....... Expansion bottle immediately got hairline split, more steam. Replaced. Now the car is wanting to run hot & I'm v concerned.. I've NEVER let the guage go into the 'red', but its climbing. Local (extremely helpful) garage said "head gasket" but then after 5 mins they werent so sure. They did a funny coloured liquid test thing in the expansion tank that was looking for combustion gases, i.e. leaks from combustion chambers. Nothing found. All seems fine. Compression test:- All seem fine at 10.5 - 11.0 bar. Heater blowing nice and hot, I seem aslso to be able to postpone the rise in temp by having this on max. Basically, doeas anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to what I should check next. |

Off topic but I think we need to see pics of this beauty of yours, lol.
Got to agree with the thermostat though, there's not much else it could be, fpr the sake of it and the price you'd be as well to put a new one in anyway, there only cheap. |

Hi Geof1970
Hi Geof
It sounds like your in quite a pickle and you have my sympathy, but to sort your issue out take Mikealder's advice and check/ replace your thermostat as i to can confirm i suffered with this issue to in a previous car. Also check the function of you fan and all of the wiring/ connections and fuse as if the fan is not working properly or not working at all this will course your car to overheat and potentially course allot of damage. I hope this helps, keep us posted. Thanks Tony |
