Default Full service...........

Just thought to tell you guys who are interested that today I serviced the 240 , and all by myself ! ! Well ........... partly .

I bought new bosch spark plugs , a volvo rotor arm and cap and oil and air filter . And some Castrol GTX Magnatec 15W40 as i was told by another 240 owner here to buy that grade .

The oil and filter was done by my uncles friend ( which I didnt know he knew my uncle ) who owns a small garage which cost me nothing ! ! Plus I learnt a few things from him while he was doing it .

I also asked him to check the exhaust near the manifold as to me it sounded like it was blowing slightly . So up in the air the car went and was good to see the underneath of it , fair play to Ian H its solid underneath and looks well protected ! Even Keith the garage owner commented how good it was .

Anyway the exhaust , yes it was blowing slightly . It has a Jetex system on it plus its been de-catted . The problem with the exhaust is that the gasket apparently has passed its sell by date , what he done as a temp fix was to undo all three bolts that secures the exhaust to the manifold then re-tightened them all . Its now not blowing , but he told me it will happen again as there is a bracket missing , plus it can be tightened no more . Any more and theres a chance the bolts will snap he said .
He also told me that the exhaust "L" bracket is missing which is putting stress on the three bolts , especially from when the car is started with the engine movement which over time causes the exhaust to blow . Been told to get one asap . Wonder why there isnt one on there ? Any other 240 owners with this ?

So there you have it on my birthday I gave the 240 a service , and boy it runs even better now ! ! LOL , or is that all in the mind ?

It is very common for the bracket that bolts to the gearbox to be missing - its easier not refitting it so when the exhaust place fit an exhaust . . . .

Glad you are getting to grips with the maintenace side - next time you will have to do it all yourself and use my guides to help you!

Now you can go and enjoy

Mike

Well done for fighting the good fight there.

Hope it's not too depressing but its a handy sheet to look at to remind yourself of all those odd jobs that need doing (ahhrrgh)

Thanks Des for the pics , the problem I have to be honest is because there isnt one on my car how would I actually know what type it is . I think the best way forward is to order the two types and return the one thats not suitable .
