Default 1st service due date.

I bought a pre registered S90 T8 recharge in June this year. Car was registered in May. In car service info now telling me 1st service due in 83 days. Checked service book and found pdi had been done in Dec 22. Garage hadn’t told me this but are telling me service has to be done by December this year. I was told at time of purchase 1st service was 18000 miles or May 24 a year after 1st registration. Any ideas if I can fight this.

If that's the case, are they also saying that the warranty starts when they PDI it rather than register it ?

I would challenge them - or they sold you a car with 6 months warranty missing ?

It could be hanging around for months after the pdi although The dealers were told not to PDI them until they had been sold. Technically the service counter starts when it is zerod on the PDI.

As far as Volvo are concerned the clock started when the PDI was logged on their system. Warranty, service, breakdown, v.o.c. etc. will all start from then.

Unfortunately you have either misunderstood or been misled. I would return to the dealer to negotiate some form of compensation.

Quoting from Volvo UK's website today;-

For 36 months after the registration date, or until your new vehicle has been driven 60,000 miles – whichever comes first – any component failure attributable to faulty materials or workmanship during manufacture will be rectified free of charge by an authorised Volvo retailer.

As you are technically being forced to service the car earlier than expected to maintain your warranty, ask the dealer to consider, as a gesture of goodwill for their oversight, to either add another year's warranty on to the tail end (unlikely) or you offer to pay for parts only at the 'early' service in December, with them picking up the labour?

Default 1st service due date.

Thanks for all your responses, I contacted garage again and they have said that my first service due date would be a year or 18000 miles from it’s registration. Only downside service reminder will be there until service carried out. They are too far away to have this reset. I will ask local dealer where it will be serviced if they can do this. I assume warranty will be the same but will double check.
Enjoying the car so much, so smooth and what a turn of speed it has. Getting about 40 miles with electric charge so I have hardly put any fuel in as mostly only do short journeys and charge from 240v outlet overnight.

It's from registration not PDI.

I had this on my 19 reg car. The PDI was done when it came into dealer stock in October 18 but car was "pre-registered" the day before I took delivery in May 19. They forgot to reset the counter but confirmed it was based on registration not PDI - I just plugged in my code scanner and reset the thing when it started complaining.

The PDI is supposed to be done a day or so before the car is due to be picked up for obvious reasons. if it is left 3 months in storage it will require a fresh one . Volvo sent a reminder letter to the dealers about this problem about 8 years ago . It seems there is still non-compliance.

My last car had the PDI done in September 2018 and was registered in May 2019... stamped as such in the service book.
