Default v40 1.8 CD

Hi guys.

Hope your all well.

I'm looking at buying a 97 v40 1.8 CD. It's only cheap but its done 154000 and has no service history
I'm just after a bit of info really. Whats the engines like? are they good for that sort of mileage? is the head gasket a problem etc

Thanks in advance

Jamie

Is it the 1.8 or 1.8i? The 1.8 is the volvo engine the 1.8i is the GDI mitsubishi engine if its the GDI I wouldn't touch it at with that mileage.

Have you rung Volvo to check if it's had any services in the past they have a central database, if it hasn't got any I personally wouldn't consider it at all at that mileage, but if it just hasn't had any for say the last 20-40k it might be worth considering but I would stick some good oil in and change it again within 6k to get the crud out the engine.

At that mileage and age it should be very cheap as well i.e. just above scrap value £300-£400.

But having said that a well serviced volvo engined one should be able to do 200K.

Default Thanks

Thanks for the info guys. I checked and could not find any info on the service history. Although it was the Volvo engine they won'ted just a bit to much money to take a risk so i left it.

I've now brought a 1.6 focus with lpg

Great forum. and thanks again, appreciated
