SC800 stereo: auxiliary input and other things?
Hello again,
As some may have seen in other posts, I've just got my nice 960 24v 3.0 Estate! (And so there's a 760GLE saloon looking for a home, else...) The 960 is fitted with an SC800 radio/tape/CD player in the boot and it all works too. But there are a couple of questions:- Is there some sort of auxiliary input in the back so I can interface an MP3 player if ever I run short of different media to play stuff? The volume control is crackly. Is it feasible, without too much dismantling to apply some electrical cleaner/lubricant in the hope that will cure it. And finally, the CD changer in right hand 'wheelwell' (I suppose this is a historical leftover from when that was where the spare was kept) position in the back is a Volvo badged unit, but Alpine(?) I assume from what I read in other posts. Thing is, it seems sensitive to road bumps and cuts the playing track out from time to time, so my otherwise sublime, well nearly, listening pleasure is interrupted from time to time on the rougher roads around. Alright, 3 questions! Anyhow, thanks for any obs about your experiences with these units. Andy |

No, there is no AUX, damn! There is a DIN socket labelled AMP though which may be useful info to somone.

Hi,
Yes, the CD changer will be an Alpine made for Volvo. If you are getting skipping on your CD's from the changer, then it is past it's sell-by date I am afraid.. Your best bet would be to get a second hand replacement for it. You could, perhaps, try one of those CD cleaners, but I suspect the former to be the case... Des. . .

If the changer unit is mounted in a frame, then it is possibly the internal unit suspension system (there is one) that is giving up or has come loose. You can open the unit and find out. If the unit is not mounted on a frame but is sitting loose then try some additional packing arount it to stabilise it. Most of mine are loose fitted and have plastic bags around them. Only get 'jumping' on the worst of road surfaces.

you can get an adaptor to connect an mp3 player to these units. basicly it plugs into the cd changer socket so will make the changer redundant. usually comes with a 3.5mm jack plug to connect to your ipod etc. last time i bought one it was about £40
