V40 (2001 bi-fuel) alternator replacement
The alternator went yesterday and needs replacing
Problem is haven't been able to source a used spare and Volvo are quoting £250ish availability sometime in August !! Aparently this alternator is un-typical being 120A rather than the more common 90A? It's a Denzo 14v 120A, model/serial 9472908 TN102211-0500 Any advice on getting hold of a replacement or whether an alternative model common to other Volvos might be an option? c |

Price sounds similar to that quoted to me a couple of years ago. have you tried one of the breakers such as Salvo or Braydon Motors?

You have probably considered it, but you could find a decent Auto Electrical workshop. They are few and far between these days - but perhaps worth a trawl through the Thompson/Yellow Pages.
I found one to supply me with a new set of slip rings, bearings and regulator pack a few months back. They also did rebuilds of alternators and starter motors on site. Really depends on how quickly it's needed. |

Thanks for the advice, I've tried a couple of breakers specialising in Volvo parts but this one seems to be in short supply for some reason.
I've tried a couple of breaker 'agencies' but nothing's turned up yet. Getting it refurbished may the best option, better than being off the road for a month. Is this unusual or can obtaining Volvo parts be this much of a pain often?(newbie) |

You could try Denso directly. Try going here: http://www.densoaftermarket.com/ and looking under distributors. You know what, by the time you have deducted VAT and got a cheaper price buying direct, then it may work out cheaper to order from the USA even when you pay a hefty postage cost. Pete |
