Thule Edge roof bars - shark fin clearance / DAB reception

I thought I'd share this experience - perhaps someone can benefit from it:

I loved the look of the Thule edge wing bar - lower profile and noise etc. my car has flush fitting rails.

The bars don't give enough clearance for the roof fin! Fortunately, my Thule roof box has a groove in the underside which looks as if it's designed for this, but users of other roof boxes may not. Thus my note of caution.

Another aspect to consider is that the close proximity of the box to the shark fin had an adverse effect on DAB reception - it became too intermittent to use.

These aside, the set up worked really well. I hope the pictures tell a thousand words, as they say.

I bought some used Volvo roof bars for my XC60 but although I put them on after buying, justo to check them, I never thought to check clearance over the shark fin. ATM I have no plans for a roof box but may carry loads on the bars in the future. Thanks for the heads up.

By the way: I went for the Volvo detachable tow bar in the end - your comments and a decent dealer discount made it a no-brainer :-)
