Exclamation 2020 V60 SRS Airbag Lamp On

Hello everyone.

Got myself a base D3 from an auction. 118,000kms on it. Car arrived with SRS Airbag light on the dash advising that service was required immediately. Friends suggested that diagnostics should be able to delete the code.

First shop started that the code kept coming back up after they tried resetting.

So secondly, I went to a local Volvo dealer who checked the car. They said they could see that at some time one or more crash sensors were triggered for a stage 3 crash. They had never seen a stage 3 occurrence. Typically it is a stage 1, a fender bender they see. They also said that they belong the knee airbags deployed. They also could not get the code to permanently turn off. They are suspecting that the car may have been repaired with incorrect airbag system parts. They would have to start tearing the car apart to figure out which part was causing the code on the dash. This could run into thousands of Euros they warned me.

After the visit I called them back to inquire if they could tell when the crash occured or even the location of the crash but they stated they did not have access to this information or it may not exist. ( I wanted to know if the auction house withheld this information).

Any suggestions, advice on how to proceed towards a least-cost solution?

You need to find an airbag specialist.

They repack and reset airbags.

If the airbag has gone off and not been repacked/reset correctly, it'll always trigger the code.

Your location suggests you are not in the UK so I've no idea what sort of legal recourse you have but I would assume none unless you can prove the car has been mis-described in some way.
Personally I would put the car back into auction and try to recoup some of the cost.
Then don't buy another car from an auction.
