Default S80 - on verge of buying...

As per earlier post, my dad is now on the verge of buying an S80 to replace his 960 and has put a £500 deposit on this car, pending my approval:

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/user_files/91.jpg

It's a March 2000-registered S80 2.4 (170bhp) manual, in Venetian Red, with T6 wheels by the looks of things. It has 83,000 on the clock. I'm going down to see the car on Thursday and it seems very nice.

There are a couple of points which I'd appreciate some feedback on though. It's being offered at £9995 (down from £10995) from a Volvo franchise, with all the associated warranty benefits. That seems like a good price until you figure in the mileage, which seems to bring it down to a forecourt price of £9100 according to the little Black Book (trade is c. £8k). Is it overpriced? Also, do you think the fact it is a manual rather than auto will make it harder to sell in years to come?

Thanks

Hi,
Hard to tell on price has they change so much from county to county, try the link below for examples on autotrader, I searched for prices between 8k and 10k 200 mile radius from my home town.
Has it got any additions like winterpack? (looks like it may have with headlight wipers on)
Is it SE?
Has it got leather?
Has it had a cambelt change, due for change at 90000 on S80's and could be quite expensive.
\seems a touch dear to me though try and get some more off it, I personally wouldn't worry about the manual box but must admit I prefer the auto's.
one last thing though, dont drive it round Lancashire, looks exactly the same as mine and I haven't seen another one like it in my area!!!!!!!

Thanks Ken - don't worry, it's in Cardiff!

The car is SE spec and has cream leather. I will be going down and taking a look at it tomorrow afternoon to sus it out and check if it has the cambelt done. Any idea how much the cambelt is? The tyres are apparently also quite low and look like an expensive size to me. I love the colour though.

Hi Ben,

Mines an SE with cream leather, definately dont come up here with it!!!!!!!!!!! LOL
No idea about cambelt price, haven't had to go there yet and probably wont as mine as only done 48K. I bought 4 tyres for mine and was nearly £300 if you want to put original michelins on I got quoted £144 each for them! and think they said about £110 each if I bought 4. Mines just been in for service at main dealers and was £252 which I didnt think was too bad, I was expecting paying more.
Post on here when you have seen it, i would like to know how you got on, think you will be pleased with it, i am with mine, best thing I ever bought! first Volvo I have had and will be getting another in a few years time thats for sure.

Hi,
I am on the verge on purchasing a new S80 D5 and have been checking around for prices. Although I live in the West Midlands I was contacted by the Volvo dealership in Swansea who offered me a good trade in price on my 1999 T reg Volvo S 140bhp. I went to visit them and found them to be very proffessional and helpful which made a pleasant change from my local dealership.
My S80, although it was only a 140bhp, was sufficient for me and quite economical for such a a large car. As a matter of fact the consumption figures are better than those quoted by Volvo for this car.
Although I looked at Mercedes E Class, BMW 5, Audi 6 and the Lexus GS300, none of these cars were as comfortable to drive as the S80. One thing I and many other S80 owners will guarantee you is that when you sit behind the wheel you are in armchair luxury.
Cheers,
Ian

The deal is a goer!

I've been down a few times to inspect the car and pester the dealer. The cambelt has been done and I think it's a genuinely striking car in that red with the beige alcantara interior and T6 wheels.

One point of concern was that it's obviously been keyed at some stage and had the two rear panels resprayed. It's not a shunt as the boot and light clusters are original, judging by the masking lines - and it's the masking lines that concern me as they appear to be flaking at one or two points. Fine for now, but as time goes on... Anyway, I have made sure that it's a condition of sale that if the paint comes up within a reasonable period that it will be re-done FOC.

Thanks for the help - I'll post some pictures of the beast when it finally arrives.
