Default 2010 XC60 amplifier

So I've got the premium sound system and I've looked under both seats but can't see an amplifier, just some bracketry and wiring connectors. Could the amplifier be underneath the carpet or elsewhere, or even not fitted?

No idea if it's a RHD/LHD issue but I found mine - under the driver's seat!
Does anyone know if it can be simply swapped for the high performance amp?

Nothing is impossible, but audio and entertainment control data are carried around the Volvo using a fiber optic system, not copper. You need to convert a converter to the optical signal to an analog line level at the audio amp input. These units do exist; contact one of the Android head unit manufacturers. For what it's worth, I recently converted mine to an Android system, and the difference was night and day using the factory spec speakers and amp. The android unit has 30 band equ. Playing around, I can dampen unwanted speaker distortion and tweak the audio to my taste.
