I think insurers adjust premiums to get you hooked one year and then bump them up in the hope folks will not change. I was with Direct Line for 17 years, never bothered with comparison sites until the premium doubled. Went on line and got the same cover for half the cost I had been paying all those years. Now compare every year. One time Saga were cheapest, then RAC, AA, Aviva etc. Currently with RAC.

I have just had the sam experience as you a couple of months ago so I left Direct line for the AA at nearly half the price ! So I will not pay nearly double for the same cover .only my personal opinion

I went with Hastings this year, and because it was through confused.com I got two £10 Shell fuel vouchers so it was only £190. Mid 30s, 10+ NCBs, low crime area.

I've only paid a total of just over 5k in 14 years of officially driving, an average of £374 a year. All done through comparison sites.

2011: £1300 (Admiral, 740 turbo, mum as registered keeper, me as named driver, both accumulated NCBs)
2012: £800 (Admiral, 940 lpt)
2013: £500 (Admiral)
2014: £372 (Admiral)
2015: £365 (Admiral)
2016: £266 (Allianz, me as registered keeper)
2017: £116 (FJ)
2018: £174 (FJ)
2019: £184 (FJ)
2020: £230 (FJ, 3k agreed value)
2021: £279 (FJ, 5k agreed value)
2022: £207 (Sheilas Wheels)
2023: £238 (Sheilas Wheels)
2024: £210 (Hastings Direct)

Whatever you do, I'd strongly recommend avoiding Churchill like the plague.

They sold my wife a policy. Unknown to her, she was meant to download an app to monitor her driving. As she was never made aware this was necessary, she didn't download the app.
They wrote to her to tell her they would cancel the policy if she didn't download the app - and the letter only arrived a week after the policy was cancelled.

Had they picked up the phone or emailed, she would have dealt with it. Instead, she unknowingly drove with no insurance for a week and now has to declare she has had an insurance policy cancelled.

Useless.

Lancaster.
Footman .
Adrian Flux.

All good. Am with Lancaster. Had two speeding tickets last yr, when premium was 185. This yr, 223. Not a big jump.

Knots quote was 1600. . .

In the end I decided to go with Moja Insurance, which is part of the Axa Group.

The premium is only a few pounds more than last year, and the cover is enough for what I need.

I do agree with Tofufi's comment re Churchill. They have been dreadful in my dealings with them, and I will definitely be moving my house insurance from them when that falls due in August.

Thanks for the useful and interesting comments. Insurance companies may be pretty rubbish, but this forum never fails to be a really good place to visit!

I also had trouble with Churchill, just to try and get a better renewal price, promised two callbacks and none came, then they tried to charge me a fee for cancelling the policy
