Very much not a typo!
I bought the car in Jan 2019 at just under 4 years old. A few weeks on I got the add 500ml oil message, a bit later, EGR messages were followed by a new EGR, inlet manifold, engine management software downgrade and a few other bits to make up a £1900 (!!!) bill. I mentioned the oil consumption at the time, Volvo drained and refilled, said come back after 1200 miles. 1200 miles later, dipstick said full therefore it's not using oil. Within a week 'add 500ml oil' showed up.
Since then, I just carry a bottle and keep it topped up. Depending on type of driving and season I generally get 1000 to 1500 miles between messages. I don't fully agree about never needing to change it but I certainly don't rush to do it at 12 months!
