Default Windscreen Wiper Blade Fitment

Apologies, this is one of those OCD posts. If you don’t like detail, don’t read!

The front wiper blades for a 940 are 20” and Volvo part number 274381. For a 960 Mk2 or V90 Mk1 they are 21” and part number 274384.

Now, unfortunately, Volvo OEM wiper blades appear to be NLA. These sizes of generic aftermarket blades are widely available with one irritating problem. The little plastic adapter rarely fits properly. If it slots into the J-hook, it doesn’t clip firmly into position. Some include adapters that completely encase the end of the wiper arm. These can look OK but tend to lead to rust in the wiper arm.

So far I have been able to transfer the OEM adapters from my last genuine Volvo set but these will not last forever. Has anyone found a brand that come with a suitable adapter that fits as well and as unobtrusively as OEM?

One problem appears to be that, no doubt off the back of the modern mantra of reducing plastic waste (aka saving money), manufacturers seem now to prefer a one-size-sort-of-fits-all adapter rather than supplying a selection of specific ones.

My research so far suggests that the size needed is 9mm small hook 9x3.

Some Chinese wholesalers produce very similar adapters to OEM.

B79 or B79C on the above linked page.

However, I have been unable to find either the adapter alone or wiper blades including such an adapter readily for retail sale in the UK.

Anyone with any pointers?

I have Bosch aero wipers on my 940 and they don't have adaptors they're just made for the hook fitment and that's it like old school blades. They've stopped the horrid noisy juddering I had too which was the main reason I tried them so I was over the moon that it has stopped that.

I got them from euro car parts if I remember correctly, I think these are the ones I bought.

The standard Bosch ones in Halfords fit straight on with no messing. They will try and sell you Halfords brand first, then fancy Bosch.

Sometimes the blades need a little bending to get them back vertical to the glass.

+1 also for Bosch, fitted like a glove, and immediately the wiper judder noise was eliminated.

As ^^^. being frugul I use Bosch (OEM) standard blades on the 745 bought from ECP on 50% off offers. They just slip on the 'J' hook on the arm. No fuss. However, Mr MOT has been known to say I haven't locked one down hard enough!
