From the recent nitrogen test I did, the pressure switch looks for something like 25PSI on the low side. However as soon as the compressor kicks in, the high side will rise and the low side drop causing clutch cycling which I believe is normal.
I think you can skip the pressure switch by disconnecting it and shorting the wires that go to it. Whether that is a good idea or not, I can't say. I certainly wouldn't do it for more than a second to avoid messing up the compressor on an empty system.
I agree that financially the best thing is to get it gassed. Most places do add UV dye by default but I would ask them to be sure before proceeding so that in the case where it does leak, you know where the leak is.
Regarding KwikFit, I have used various branches and they differ vastly depending on the staff in my view. Some branches I would never use again, others I would still consider using.
