My confessional, is that I keep going back to the rather nice red Si King740.

Been sitting at £8k for a few days, if it was an auto I’d have crumbled by now…

Just out of interest, I’ve been trying to find when 240’s with a 2.3 started being sold here in the UK, but can’t seem to get a definitive answer.

Cheers
Steve

I think it was around the early 80s Steve with the GLT using the B23E engine, post 86 models used the B230E.

That's the impression i've always had, whether i'm right, wrong or somewhere near the mark, i can't be sure.

Cheers chaps, 👍👍

Been on lookout for a decent 245 with 2.3 and auto, seems most 2.3’s that come up are manuals.

That 164 just calls out to be a VWW 😀

Cheers

… it looks like the answer is March 1980.

Ah, I get your point Andrew.

No, it wasn’t me… I was interested and did save the auction lot, but common sense was the better part of valour. If I’d had that second garage built I’d probably have bought the 164 at that price…

... perhaps it is a good thing I don't have that second garage built yet, otherwise I'd have bought this by now:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256508581751

Hopefully the temptation will pass .

Addendum: or even better this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/126501641...Bk9SR4bhwsz7Yw

... I'm a sucker for an unfinished project. Just like with Volvo (or any car) restorations though, they just aren't worth it. The first CB450 above would need perhaps £3,000 and quite a bit of time spent on it to make it nice (but not a show bike), the second would take £5,000 and 200 hours of work. The problem is when they are done they are only worth £5,000, like this one:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204765796...Bk9SR5De2sz7Yw

... I rather suspect the dealer would accept £5,000 in folding money (less if he/she still owns it in the autumn).

Doesn't this remind us of quite a few Volvo restoration stories?
