More photos - Vida instructions for re-install oil pump - not sure what I'm supposed to measure looks like gear play but I'm sure it's tension of the drive gear against the main gear on the crank. Stat says "Flank Play" is that lateral movement or radial movement?

I'd chuck another set of shells in as a matter of course as long as the journal looks okay. If you change the rings you need to deglaze the bores or you might end up with low compression/high oil consumption as the rings and bores will glaze rather than bed in, don't be afraid to rev the engine when you start driving again, plenty of revs on light throttle openings to get the rings bedded.

Head should be back next week, machine shop are just awaiting a new valve from Volvo Sweden! While I'm on does anyone know a decent alternate to Berryman's Carb cleaner for cleaning off the pistons.?? Or a UK supplier with stock??

Never used the stuff you mentioned, but have had lots of success with this stuff from Wynn's .... really cleans up the goo, varnish and crud from carbs, jets and yes I have used it on sticky piston rings ... its not cheap though.

Hope it helps

I managed to find some on ebay, delivered today, but in the meantime i used some strong de-greaser, which worked a treat. Last photo showing big end shells which Obvs. are FOMOCO, and i am picking up LR Freelander ones later. I'm going to properly polish to tops later, pre re-install. Will post those photos when done.
