The first models had the same AWD as the previous "classic" until 2002 / 2003, which was changed to Haldex Gen 2 and then Gen 3 in 2006.
Make sure you have 4 driven wheels and there are no warnings in the dashboard / on VIDA/OBD II and no noises.
If you have a ramp or can lift the car off the ground with all 4 wheels check they are all turning.
AWD can be expensive if you let Volvo sort it out.
