I will add that I have had a genuine pump fail on a D5.
The mileage at that point was 250k and had 2 cam dots fitted in that time. It must be said it went from a very minor weep, as in it was as slight damp around the pump to running out in just 12 miles. I will say I fitted a Gates pump that I got very cheap as I just need the car to last a few more months at which point it was scrapped anyway.
