The power pulse system injects compressed air into the turbine to spin it up faster and reduce turbo lag, the air lines are a weak link in the system and a common fault, the car will drive normally with a leak in the power pulse but they may be a little turbo lag, it is a quick fix to get the leaking pipe replaced.
This fault should not create any smoke and the only noise may be a hissing noise, you may have had a stone trapped between the disc and backing plate making the noise you wear hearing.
