This is why a Volvo dealership charges around £400 to replace this (including the part). An independent might be cheaper, but I reckon you'd be still looking around £300 to get it replaced.
Volvo decided to put the thermostat in the most awkward place that you have to remove so much out of the way just to get to it, which means more in labour costs.
If doing it yourself, allow several hours & skinned knuckles.
