Default rear brakes

Hello all,
I'm changing the rear brake pads on my 2002 S40 (the dealership wanted $158) and I would like to know the procedure for compressing the piston back into the caliper. I think that the twisting action involved in the rear caliper pistons is a function of having the parking brake actuate the piston without using the hydraulic system. I have the tool to rotate the piston but I am wondering if I will need to disconnect the parking brake cable from the caliper to get the piston to rotate freely.
These brake pads wear out so quickly, especially for rears, that I am assuming that lots of you have changed the pads yourselves before. Any help or input about this procedure would be greatly appreciated.
