Just realised one of those links is for the smaller horizontal unit, so may not be too useful.

Thanks, the XC60 link is interesting, I had never considered stress fractures, but the cracks on mine are mich smaller and at glass level rather than bumper level.

Attached a couple of pics. Shows the random cracks and moisture at the top of the cluster. Not convinced this amount of moisture would work it's way upwards...
