Quick update for you all.

Didn't get to use the car last night so still no idea how bright the lights are, but took her out this morning and found that the can bus alarmed out pretty much straightaway stating that there's a fault with the reversing lights. A single press on the steering wheel button clears the warning and it doesn't come back on, but I'll wait and see how bright the lights are before deciding if I want to put up with the warning or if I'm better off changing the bulbs back to standard.
