That might be the electric parking heater (for hybrid models), which isn't available in the UK. In the UK they fire up the aux heater (fuel powered) to warm the car, but in other countries it can use the battery to power an electric heater. It's buried in the manual somewhere.
Irrelevant for you since you don't have the hybrid, but answering in case anyone else was interested :-)
