As far as I know the PCV is a fairly common issue and there are a few threads on here about it. I changed mine a couple of years back- not easy but not too bad- access is limited. After I changed it, there was a huge improvement on smoke esp. at start up. Also a huge improvement on oil consumption. Make sure you also check all associated hoses for blockages/kinks etc. Oil consumption further improved by only filling oil to mid way up dipstick range.
