A difference can exist with the mounting through bolts- I purchased a spare for an '88 240 (2.0 L) it fits in terms of the electrical plug but the mounting holes differ:~
I haven't done anything about it as it is just a standby purchase- may be worth checking yours against a photo of the replacement.
