Thinks I would look at
Speedo cable, try some light oil down the cable - a test run with it off
Gear linkage, could be a rattle in the linkage/gear lever
Gerbox/engine mounts could have failed
Prop UJ's but would normally expect vibration
Timing gear is a good suggestion but it should sound engine noise rather than gearbox.
After all that it is gearbox off to investigate the clutch and gearbox
