Followed your instructions, coil resistance is OK - 5.3ohms. Cleaned the connector pins and reassembled. A dozen or so starts and no problems.
The bulb is working OK, but it probably needs replacing. The top part of the glass is soft and spongy! I don't know how it is still working. It does look like a non-standard pattern bulb, which I suppose I will have to get from a Volvo agent. It is not listed in the handbook or mentioned in Haynes (which often tends to run out of the information you need.)
If the lamp is faulty, is this likely to cause a problem?
I have cancelled my booking with the agent, phew! I will wait a bit longer for the VADIS run.
