Pulling my hair out now.

Don't pull your hair out. Do Read one of my threads. i had similar last December or so (2019).

Cost me £1500 PLUS MORE.... Volvo Specialist independent charged me £1500 and said it needed new ECU. That costs £1000+ and then his labour £500 to find the fault. After that he said it still had other faults so had to disconnect everything one by one and found it was the DEM module apparently giving too much voltage to the CEM causing it.

He then said he cannot replace the DEM and said it would probably cost £1000 more. I was really pi$$ed off. Then told me some guy some where in dagenham did it for £400 reconditioned but refused to give me any details... and said one of his customers had told him.

Managed to via luck locate this legendary guy who incidentally was 20 mins drive away by using ebay and searches and what not!

Guy said £140 for DEM reconditioned and £30 labour and not the £1000+ for new of £400+ second had not i was told by this reliable Volvo independent specialist.

I asked this guy about the CEM, said should not have been more than £200 odd plus £45 program fee as you don't buy a new one but say you need to update your current with say front and rear parking sensors and they give you one at a reduced price. He was shocked at the price.

THIS LEAD ME TO THINK perhaps the original fault was the DEM and not he ECU as the other guy had suggested...?

Moral of the story, check the DEM on the back wheels.
