Hope this helps anyone who is thinking of doing this on car with the large flange.
Having done this job myself, the only thing that I would add is that when you have the flange off, it's a good idea to remove the flange pinion seal and fit a new one.

Genuine seal from Volvo was pretty cheap and it only adds an extra 10 minutes to the job.

If you go to all that trouble and after full reassembly and road test find that the old seal is now leaking after being disturbed it would be .............................

Chances are everything will be fine though.👍
