Hi,

Obviously the oil is not going to be cold after a trip!!

So you have a couple of possibilities to look for:
1) The oil temperature sensor is faulty.
2) The sender cable is faulty.
3) Always a possibility, the connection is corroded/faulty.
4) Finally - could be a faulty guage...

Easiest to check the connection by removong and cleaning, and a few on and offs to re-establish the connection.
Then trace the cable back if that doesn't work.
Check the voltage from the sensor - someone more learned than me can advise the voltage.
