Substantially modified is the bogeyman hiding in the shadows here.
There was a diesel 240, not for this market though mercifully. To be tax exempt historic vehicle it needs to be pretty much as available when new. Though certainly a VW diesel engine is more "authentic" than a Toyota V8 or SBC for sure.
Mind you, its an old Volvo, who is going to worry?
