Can't remember the exact situation with the fuses, but the front 12V socket stopped working for me, because I dropped some sort of detritus in it.
The socket in the back passenger compartment, I believe was still working, because I have a recollection of powering my electronics from there. It was a while ago, and there's a possibility it was from the USB in the centre armrest.
I fixed it with a new fuse.
Even if my memory is inaccurate, before you go "butchering" anything, I would try a new fuse, as a cheap and easy fix, although the fuse box position isn't great and I found the cover a little tricky.
