K-jet cars will flow far more petrol through a filter than non-return systems, so it's filtering the entire contents of your tank and fuel system constantly.
I changed a 20,000mile filter and opened it up: Yuk. Changing them every 10,000 miles now f'sure. Older fuel tanks will produce more crud the older they get.
