If you remove the door card, you might find that the wires to the lock have been disconnected, presumably for a reason.

Until you have sorted the locking problem, a safe option is to leave the door card removed, because it gets difficult to remove it if the door is stuck locked. Be careful when you remove the card because good ones are very hard to find.

Does the rear wiper attempt to move at all?
Rear wipers sometimes fail because the shaft goes through a black grommet in the glass, and corrosion on the shaft seizes it up. You have to remove the tailgate inner panel then you can see the wiper mechanism.
Buy a new grommet from Volvo, take out the old unit, clean up the shaft and see if it works then.
Measure voltage at the wiper when you try to operate to find out if there is a supply problem.

Sometimes the wiper doesnt park correctly. Can be caused by burnout of components (resistor or capacitor on the wiper itself). Fairly easy to get a good used wiper.

Thanks Steve, no, the wiper makes no attempt to move, and is the tailgate panel easy enough to remove ?
When you say use the lock on the drivers door switchpack, what difference could there be ? using the fob, all lock pins pop up !

is the door card held in with screws or is it clips that you just pry out ?
