With modern cars (this is modern to me!) It's fiddly things like working out the speed signal to the ECU which take the time. That needed the clocks to be removed and a hall sensor glued into the Speedo to sense the Speedo cable revolutions

If you notice , 300 speedos are already equipped for a hall sensor recessed in the back of the speedo to measure the cable speed , but volvo never used it .
