Does yours have central locking? The inset square top right in your diagram shows the rod from the push button with a thing like a black cotton real near the bottom with wires coming out.

There's a switch sealed inside with a spring that has to be overcome to activate all the door locks as you push the button. The spring on mine had weakened with age so that the weight of the button plus switch alone was sufficient to engage all the locks. A quick fix was to wind a bit of matching sticky tape round the button so that the friction supported it in the hole in the door capping.
