No blackening or melting but I had a similar persistent blowing of a rear bulb until someone told me to replace the one on the other side at the same time - even though it was seemingly good. Problem solved.
Can't remember the reasoning unfortunately but might be worth a try if you just want a quick outcome rather than a troubleshooting marathon.
