I doubt the overboost is the cause of a split pipe the intercooler is the weaker link ,but if you take speedbumps to fast a hard bang will split the pipe because the pipe is under the crankcase
Also the rubber seal of the silencer in the boostpipe and the rubber seal of the pipe with the turbo can swell and tear (had this myself).
Take some clamps and a bicycle pump and some hard cans to block off the boos section in parts to pinpoint the leakage.
And be glad the engine goes in limpmode if it didnt the turbo will be blown up due to overspeeding if air gushes out
