No spacers required & providing you buy original Volvo alloys that were an original option for your car, then they should fit straight on. I changed from 18’s to 17’s & they fit fine.
An 18” wheel has a 55mm offset & 16” is 50mm (17” is also 50mm), so there’s very little in the difference in that sense. Obviously, you’d need new tyres & a set of 16” or 17” alloys!
