Please excuse my ignorance regarding this.

I would like to renew the ATF in my 2008 C70 as it seems a good idea but don't have the capability to do it myself so I'll have to stick with the Volvo line that it doesn't need changing unless it's been given a hard life, which mine hasn't as far as I know.

Nevertheless, I'm intrigued as why there isn't a procedure, (or perhaps there is), whereby you could simply suck all the fluid out of the filler hole then replace it with the same amount you took out so it's done in one operation or why there isn't simply a drain hole in the box to let gravity do the work?
